The University of Oregon welcomes all graduates and guests to participate in our commencement ceremonies and is committed to universal access. If you have questions about the University Commencement Ceremony (main ceremony) or travel logistics to and from campus, please contact us.
If you have questions about a school, college, or department ceremony (any ceremony other than the University Commencement Ceremony), you should contact the school, college, or department office and request to speak with the commencement coordinator.
Parking, Getting to Campus, and Travel on Campus
Graduates and guests who use a wheelchair or who may have difficulty walking long distances are strongly encouraged to make use of our designated ADA parking area in the Columbia Garage (under the Ford Alumni Center) on 13th Avenue.
There will be traffic controls at the intersection of 13th Avenue and Agate Street. Any vehicle with a DMV issued Disabled Person Parking Permit placard from any state will be admitted onto 13th Avenue for access to the Columbia Garage. All other vehicles will be asked to park at Autzen Stadium. If you or any guests need to be dropped off close to Matthew Knight Arena, there will be a loading zone designated just east of the arena on Villard Street. If you plan to attend the main University Commencement Ceremony, please plan to be parked before 8:30 a.m., as there will be a brief street closure limiting access to the garage during the Grad Parade. Streets will reopen immediately following the parade.
Wheelchair-lift-equipped shuttles will run continuously from 13th Avenue in front of the Ford Alumni Center to locations on the UO campus. These shuttles will be able to drop guests off as close to ceremony locations as campus streets will allow and are available for all guests with limited mobility, whether or not they use a wheelchair.
Due to congested traffic on campus, we recommend guests arrive at the parking lot at least one hour prior to the scheduled start time of the ceremony they wish to attend.
Additionally, a number of golf carts will be available to commencement guests with limited mobility to get around campus. Guests should check in at one of the four information booths designated on the commencement map in order to arrange for pick-up via golf cart. Please note that golf carts are limited and there may be a wait time in order to arrange rides.
Mobility Accommodations for the University Commencement Ceremony
Matthew Knight Arena has designated wheelchair seating located on both the main and upper concourse levels throughout the arena. The seating is designed so one member of each guest's party may sit with them in the designated section. Additionally, the University of Oregon is reserving the top row of the inner bowl of seating (immediately in front of each wheelchair section) for additional party members to allow guests to sit near their entire party whenever possible.
Guests with limited mobility who do not use a wheelchair should check with Matthew Knight Arena staff or commencement volunteers for elevator locations or if they are unable to find accessible seating.
Mobility Accommodations for Department Ceremonies
Graduates and guests in wheelchairs or who are requesting seating accommodations for a department ceremony (any ceremony other than the University Commencement Ceremony) should contact the relevant school, college, or department office and ask to speak to the commencement coordinator in order to arrange accommodations.
For guests needing access to a wheelchair during their stay in Eugene, there are a number of businesses in Eugene and Springfield that have wheelchair rentals available including:
- All-Med Inc.
