University Commencement Ceremony

Congratulations Graduating Ducks!

This day will mark an important milestone in your academic career. Your degree represents an incredible journey of academic dedication and scholastic accomplishment.

We are proud to welcome you with a day of celebration and activities to recognize all you have accomplished.

Parking and Shuttles

Commencement day parking is available at Autzen Stadium with free shuttles to campus. Accessible parking is located on the main campus but space is limited.

Grad Parade

Grad Parade is one of our favorite traditions. Graduates and faculty will gather at the corner of 13th Avenue and University Street in front of Erb Memorial Union at 8:15 a.m. in regalia. This is where every graduate can shine as an individual as they parade down 13th Avenue to Matthew Knight Arena for the main event. We encourage graduates to have fun.

Guest Seating

Guest seating is limited and all guests must have a ticket to enter. Matthew Knight Arena will open at 7:00 a.m. for guest seating and all ticketed guests should be seated by 9:00 a.m. Guests will be able to enter the building through the north and east entrances.

To enhance public safety and make arena access more efficient, the University of Oregon has adopted a clear bag policy. Guests may bring in one (1) clear bag no larger than 12" x 6" x 12" or a 1-gallon plastic storage bag. Guests are limited to one clear bag per person, along with a small clutch or purse for privacy. The following items are not permitted in the arena: glass or aluminum containers, helium balloons, weapons, fireworks, laser pointers, explosives, munitions, or alcohol.

Ceremony Registration/Tickets

Guest tickets for the University Commencement Ceremony have all been claimed at this time. Graduating students can and should still register for their seat to participate.

We will know after the ticket pick-up event concludes on June 6 if there are unclaimed tickets. If additional tickets become available, we will equitably distribute them to registered graduates who were not able to secure guest tickets before they were all claimed. Students will be notified by email using the email address listed in their registration if additional tickets become available, in the order that registrations were received.

For guests that do not have tickets, but still would like to view the ceremony, there are a couple of options. There will be a stand-by line available at the arena north entrance for guests willing to wait to enter the arena until after the ceremony has started, in the event that there are available seats. The stand-by entry will be managed at the discretion of the arena event staff with regard to the building’s fire code.

There will also be a first-come, first-served overflow viewing area for guests without tickets in the Ford Alumni Center Ballroom, just west of Matthew Knight Arena. Guest tickets are NOT required for department ceremonies (with the exception of the ceremonies for graduate/PhD business and the School of Music and Dance) where graduates formally cross the stage and are presented with diploma covers. Please check with your department for additional participation details. We'll also have a link for out-of-town friends and family to watch the ceremony live online.

To ensure a positive experience for graduates, their guests, and the university community, UO Commencement is a substance-free event except for formal receptions, where alcohol is served in OLCC-regulated locations. This includes all activities, and applies to indoor and outdoor venues, including the Grad Parade, the main University Commencement Ceremony, and individual school, college, and department ceremonies.

Students found in possession of prohibited substances could be subject to sanctions, including but not limited to confiscation of the substance(s), being denied access to commencement activities, or notification to law enforcement of any illegal substances.
